Common Souls is a duo comprised of two British Arabs from Birmingham, UK. With influences from both East and West, their music fuses together the best of both cultures. Muad, of Yemeni descent, has a distinct and gifted singing voice that is recognised wherever he goes. While Bustami, of Sudanese origin, brings thought-provoking, inspiring lyrics through his art of rapping. In fact, Muad and Bustami, close friends since childhood, came together in 2014 after honing in on their talents for many years. “Wer’e just two ordinary guys but we have an extraordinary mission,” says Bustami. “Together, we want to make a difference to the world through our vocals, lyrics and performances. I know God brought us together for a reason,” he says. Their inspiration comes from poetry, sacred scripture, the wise sayings of sages and the ever evolving environment in which they live. Their songs have touched people throughout the world, transcending age, race and culture. Common Soul’s music is soulful, poetic and powerful embodying all that is beautiful about music. They are particularly relevant today as they appeal to all communities and produce music about some of the most important issues in the world, whether it be: faith, spirituality, politics or messages of hope and motivation. Common Souls have performed in cities across the world. Yet, a large number of their live performances have been in aid of humanitarian work as they see their music as part of a bigger picture. With roots in two countries stricken by poverty – Yemen and Sudan – they are all too aware of the plight of those less fortunate and see themselves as agents of change.
